BAIC EU5 R500 electric car spotted in India

The EU5 R500 is powered by a 53.5 kWh battery that is said to offer a range of up to 450 km.

Beijing Automotive Industry Corp’s (BAIC) EU5 R500 electric car has been spotted in India. The car was seen on a flat-bed somewhere in West Bengal. It's unclear whether the EV has been imported for testing purposes or if it's in transit to one of the neighbouring countries.

The R500 is an electric sedan that has an uncanny resemblance to the more recent Volkswagen models. It has large U-shaped LED daytime running lights on the front bumper, while the rear reminds us of the Jetta.

The EU5 R500 uses an electric motor that has an output of 212 BHP and 300 Nm. It is powered by a 53.5 kWh battery pack that offers a range of up to 450 km on a single charge. The company claims that the car can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.8 seconds and has a top speed of 155 km/h.

The car comes with brake energy regeneration and the charging time of the battery is said to be 9 hours. Using a DC fast charger, the battery can charged from 30-80% in 30 minutes.
