Bajaj plans to export RE60 quadricycle

Bajaj Auto revealed the RE60 quadricycle in January 2012. However, due to various legal issues, the company has not been able to launch the vehicle in India.

With legal matters taking a long time to be settled, Bajaj Auto has decided to rework its strategy and set its sights on export markets including Sri Lanka, Egypt and Nigeria. The company claims that these countries have expressed interest in the product and it has started the process of seeking approvals for launching the RE60.

The RE60 is powered by a 216 cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke petrol engine coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. CNG and LPG versions are also available.

It has been quite a long time since the Government of India approved the new category of vehicle. However, legal cases have made it difficult for Bajaj to introduce the vehicle in the market. The company feels that some of its rivals are deliberately causing these hurdles for the RE60 by equating it to a car.

The ARAI is expected to complete the approval process for the RE60 shortly.
