Bi-turbo V8 installed in Mercedes-AMG C63 S plug-in hybrid

While it does come with 671 horsepower, it doesn't invoke emotion the way a full-blown V8 does.

It is a known fact that the current Mercedes-AMG C63 S with the 2.0 twin turbo plug-hybrid had enthusiasts disappointed. While it does come with 671 horsepower, it doesn't invoke emotion the way a full-blown V8 does. Sales also haven't been great worldwide.

Now, an Austrian firm, Vuk Manufaktur has come up with a solution to make petrolheads happy again.

For the past two years, Vuk Manufaktur has been developing and building a V8-powered W206 C63, which is what the sports sedan should have been in the first place. Work has just been wrapped up and the car sounds exactly how a pure-blooded AMG should.

Now for some details on the engine swap. It sure wouldn't be an easy job. The four-cylinder powertrain has been removed, together with all of the plug-in hybrid parts. Vuk hasn't specified what AMG engine they have fitted in the car, but it looks like it's a 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 that's seen in many AMG models. A 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox has probably been mated to the motor.

While the current C63 S completely outperforms its predecessors, it simply cannot match the driving experience that the older cars offered. Even an aftermarket exhaust cannot match the raw soundtrack of a V8. Vuk’s project car sounds just as amazing as the old C63, making it a proper AMG car.

Here is a short clip where you can hear what it sounds like.

It is not known whether Vuk Manufaktur plans to sell these V8 conversions, but we now know that the 4.0 litre V8 can be dropped into the current C63.

The fact that it will be time-consuming and expensive is a different story altogether.
