BMW 5 Series long wheelbase India launch in 2024

The stretched BMW 5 Series will lock horns with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Long wheelbase in India.

BMW plans to bring the 5 Series long wheelbase to India to take on the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which is also available in extended wheelbase form in the Indian market.

According to a media report, BMW is likely to launch the long-wheelbase 5 Series in early 2024. It will be assembled at the brand’s Chennai plant. Currently, the stretched 5 Series is a China-specific model, which would require major modifications before it goes on sale in India.

The success of the E-Class long-wheelbase has shown that there is potential in this segment of the market. Premium executive sedans like the E-Class and 5 Series are mostly chauffeur-driven. Therefore, having an inch or two of additional legroom at the back makes a good selling proposition.

The India-spec next-gen 5 Series will be based on the Chinese version. The car will have longer rear doors for better ingress and egress and reclining rear seats. Features such as a panoramic sunroof and massage function for the seats could be among the list of options available on the car.

Technical details of the next-generation 5 Series are still under wraps. However, reports suggest that the Indian version could get petrol-hybrid and diesel powertrain options.
