BMW India has announced a voluntary service campaign to fix a glycol leakage issue from the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler in some of its diesel models. According to the company, the soot deposits and the high temperatures normally present in the EGR module could lead to the melting of the intake manifold, and in rare cases may cause a fire.

7,900 diesel cars manufactured between 2011 and 2016 have been affected. These include 4-cylinder diesel models built between October 2011 to August 2016 and 6-cylinder models from March 2011 to July 2015. The affected cars include the 1 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series (Coupe, Convertible & Gran Coupe), 7 Series, X3, X5 and the X6.

BMW India will contact the owners of the affected diesel vehicles and carry out the repairs at no extra cost. Depending on the model, the job is expected to take 1-3 hours.
