BMW though is yet to announce a timeline for the arrival of its first all-electric M model.

BMW's M performance division has revealed its plans to develop a brand new all-electric drive system.

This new system is said to underpin all future models from the performance division and consists of quad motors and a singular central control module. The drive system is currently being tested under the guise of a modified BMW i4 M50 sedan.

The new quad motor all-electric drive system will debut on the brand's first-ever standalone M model, which the brand claims will be unlike anything before. While the exact specifications of the powertrain remain unknown, BMW has revealed that the all-electric M will get four electric motors, one on each wheel, along with plenty of advanced technological trickery.

The short teaser video of the all-electric BMW M car also includes a short CGI clip of the vehicle doing a tank turn. While there are no details if the feature will actually make onto the production model, it does showcase the car's capabilities with the quad-motor setup.
