Booked the Mini Countryman, need help with tyre choice

While the car is perfect for my needs, I would like to escape the nightmare of run flats and change to tubeless tyres.

BHPian amitverma123 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Hello all,

Finally after much deliberation, I have locked and booked the new Mini Countryman JCW and delivery is expected in 2 weeks. Now while the car is perfect for my needs, I would like to escape the nightmare of run flats and just change to normal tubeless tyres plus new all black alloys on Day 1.

99% of my driving will be in Mumbai with tyre repair guys at a short distance! Plus, the Indian spec mini also has a spare tyre space so I will buy 5 tyres. Please suggest if this is the right call and if yes, which tyre (size, brand, spec) do you suggest. My focus is comfort without giving away any handling or grip.

Here's what BHPian itwasntme had to say on the matter:

Your variant will probably have 225/50/18 as per this review.

This is an odd size and Michelin India doesn't seem to have this in their range. Better push the dealer to provide the exact specs so you can start looking.

Here's what BHPian Turbanator had to say on the matter:

I was trying to find my older posts here or in some group, can't recollect. Your worries are genuine and in the past, Mini have used on 17inches Hankook run-flats which are useless.

I got mine with 17 Inch- 215/45R17 which I changed in PS4 but found it too loud. Had to change to Primacy4 for more comfort. My local tyre guy was helpful and paid a fair price for the RFT that came along. Apparently, there's a high demand for the OE RFT as many people want to stick.

Yours will be 205x40x18, Pirelli or Goodyear, you can change it with something from Michelin. This is an odd size, check this person- 9971099239 - Karan. I have got tyres and rims on multiple times and also many other members have used him. I plan to add him on the directory.

Here's what BHPian Ajmat had to say on the matter:

There is also a shortage of RFT's in the open market, at least there was a few months ago. When I went to replace tyres for the Cooper S, I switched to Primacy4. Big difference for the better. One RFT had bare 5000km one and another was half worn. I sold them to my neighbour before I left the tyre shop for 10k, the lot!
