Bought a used Tata Tiago JTP: Ownership experience

A sedate drive in the Tiago JTP returns a fuel efficiency figure of just around 12 km/l.

A performance hatch as your first personal car?

Well, that's the question I was trying to answer after I came across a used Tiago JTP in Cars24. I merely went to check out the car that was with the dealer and after the test drive, I had made my decision. I will probably write a separate thread on my experience with cars24, however, in a nutshell, if you are careful and be cautious enough, it can be a smooth experience!

This car was almost 2-year-old and was listed for a little over Rs 5.5L in Chennai. The car was in decent shape and I had given it out for service in A.S.S immediately after possession. There were a few niggles, otherwise, was in a good shape.

We have an Alto and Ignis in our family and I must say Tiago JTP is an altogether different level. Switch on the sports mode and the car changes its character in a moment. City mode is what I am using otherwise and pretty happy with the performance.

The first point of bother though (not that I am complaining) is the FE. Very sedate driving gives me a max of 12 kmpl in the city and 15kmpl on the highway. Load the car with people or drive in sports mode - FE drops to 10 and 13 in city and highway respectively.

I was talking to the technician in the A.S.S and he too mentioned that JTP was disbanded because of the dismally low sales figures (apparently it was less than 20 from their showroom in the two years) and that in turn was because of the highly disappointing FE.

The second point I am worried about is the availability of A.S.S for JTP cars in Chennai. At present, Gurudev motors in Anna Nagar is the only authorised service station. That severely limits your options. Hopefully, I don't feel the need to look elsewhere for my service requirements.

Wish me more happy miles.
