BHPian MZee recently shared this with other enthusiasts:
I have solar installed in my villa and I am currently under-utilizing its current capacity .
I am thinking of buying an EV car and having it used in Kochi as an Uber with a known person as a driver (he desperately needs a job). Driving per day to be restricted by one full charge done overnight.
I believe 75,000 kms per month is achievable . Can the car be written down over 6 years with one battery change in between ?
Does anyone have a similar experience ? If someone car share a financial working that would be awesome ( I am a retiree who has just returned after decades overseas and hence the calculation I have done may not reflect the reality )
What car would you advise ? Suggestions and tips most welcome .
Thank you !

Driving per day to be restricted by one full charge done overnight .The EV Cabs I know always have access to fast (or faster) chargers since their downtime needs to be minimal. They are running 24x7 to make it work, in 3 shifts of 8 hours each, or 2 shifts X 12 hours. At best, your solar charging will partially charge your EV cab.

A lot of fleet operators are running EV cabs. You should first have some in-person meets with them to understand the business. Also, rent some EV cabs from Uber / Ola for long durations and engage in a chat. I have found them always willing to share information.

Sorry yes - 75,000 kms a year

You are better off monetizing that under utilized capacity through charging ports for some EV scooters and local cabs as opposed to buying a new EV and monetizing it by employing a driver. Good luck.

Hope you have also considered the implications of being an owner of a cab. You are responsible for any issues including (god forbid) any accidents etc. Plus while you have identified a reliable guy, hoping he sticks around, you will second another driver for second shift and a replacement in case the primary guy falls sick or goes on a leave etc.
