CCTV video: Jeep Compass stolen in Delhi

I know of a friend's Creta in Delhi stolen in a similar fashion couple of years back and was never recovered.

Just found this news about a Jeep Compass theft in Delhi. The owner apparently has offered a reward of 2 lakhs to anyone who helps him to get the car recovered or give him vital clues. The theft took place a week back and the news indicates that they may have used key programmers and GPS jammers to commit the crime.

Is this also a case of theft using VIN. The crook though took a long while to get access to the cabin, started the car in no time and drove off. They came in a Creta (possibly a stolen vehicle too) and has appeared on the street once and after doing something on the car, left the place only to come back a few minutes later and got access to the car. Couldn't see them breaking open anything to gain access. What could be the modus operandi here?

On a related note, how safe are our tech-laden modern day cars? These thefts are quite worrying for car owners.

Here's what BHPian a4anurag had to say on the matter:

RTO's should stop issuing the third registration sticker when getting the HSRP fitment done where it is pasted on the windshield giving out the chassis and engine number to anyone and everyone on the road.

Thieves can use this as a source to "get into" the vehicle.
