Celerio diesel information leaked ahead of launch!

With the Celerio, Maruti Suzuki introduced the AMT technology to the Indian mass market. Now, over a year since this car's launch, the company is all set to introduce its first in-house developed diesel engine, once again debuting in the Celerio.

This diesel motor is a 793 cc, 2-cylinder unit which produces 47 BHP at 3,500 rpm and 125 Nm of max torque at 2,000 rpm. The ARAI fuel efficiency figure for this motor stands at 27.62 km/l, making it India's most fuel efficient diesel car. It is also going to be equipped with a new hydraulic clutch.

Maruti claims that this is the lightest engine available in the country today, weighing merely 89 kilos. This is due to its aluminum construction which is much lighter than a cast iron unit.

Rumors are that the Celerio diesel is likely to be launched on June 3, 2015. A Zdi variant has been spotted before, however, we will have to wait and see whether it will be available with ABS + EBD and dual airbags or just a driver airbag. The Celerio diesel will compete with Chevrolet Beat, Hyundai Grand i10 and Tata's upcoming Kite.
