Citroen Basalt production begins in India

The Basalt SUV coupe shares its underpinnings with the C3 Aircross.

According to a media report, Citroen has commenced production of the Basalt SUV coupe in India ahead of its launch. The car is being manufactured at Citroen's Thiruvallur plant in Tamil Nadu.

The Citroen Basalt made its global debut in March this year. It shares its underpinnings with the C3 Aircross.

The Basalt has similar design features to the C3 Aircross, except for the coupe-like roofline. It sports split headlamps with LED DRLs, wraparound taillights and square-ish wheel arches. While the interior is expected to be similar to the C3 Aircross, the Basalt could get more advanced features and creature comforts.

Under the bonnet, the Basalt will use the familiar 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with either a manual or automatic gearbox.
