Completed 10,000 km in just 7 months with my Jimny: A few observations

The MT gearbox is fantastic. My other MT is the Hilux. While the shifts of Hilux are much better, the one in Jimny is decent and has short throws.

My Jimny completed 10K KMs couple of days ago. Car is little over 7 months old and did not realize how this car munched 10K KMs so quickly. I did a few highway drives and has been family favorite for short drives to town.

Gave it for service at Bharath motors. I asked them to do what is mentioned by Suzuki, which includes oil change, filters etc. Bill came to around 2.2K .

Issues noticed

- Crackling roof when driving on a sunny day.
- Rear parking sensor conked off, replaced under warranty.

Other observations

- With other powerful cars in garage, I expected the engine to be a downer initially. But now with 10K, find it pretty good. Yes it doesnot have the punch for a quick overtake, yet is pretty comfortable to drive all day at 100-110. The engine feels quite refined now like other Suzuki's and redlining 1.5 NA is quite fun.

- The MT gearbox is fantastic. My other MT is the Hilux. While the shifts of Hilux are much better, the one in Jimny is decent and has short throws. The clutch is much lighter too. Above all this, the Jimny needs minimal gear changes. Car doesnot stall at 30-35KM/Hr in 5th Gear. Car takes ghat roads like Sampaje in 3rd gear without much fuss. The Hilux in comparison, needs more shift.

- I have been driving different cars over dreaded Shiradi ghat over last 20+ years. This handles the bad road the best. Even the Endeavour does not come close. Slot into 3rd gear and Jimny flies off on these bad stretch. On the flipside come 4 lane, the soft suspension feels a bit underwhelming especially when the surface is uneven.

- After driving through slush, at times, there is a noise as if the muck is rubbing against the brake rotor, the noise goes away after driving on tarmac for few hundred meters.

- In city car happily potters around in 3rd gear. Even roadhumps can be easily taken in 3rd gear. Compact dimension is a boon. For shopping, quick visit to farm this is perfect.

- Paint quality is strictly average. Already has scratches and Nexa blue is difficult to keep clean.

- Fuel efficiency is good , have to see if there any improvement post oil change. So far get 10-12KMPL in city/town and 15-16 on highways.

- Large turning radius is annoying. Sometimes people watch in amusement, such a compact car but why am I taking multiple attempts to make a simple u turn!

- While the car doesnot have the road presence, still catches quite a few eyeballs. Boxy design, compact dimension, low seller means not so many on roads.
