Culdesac Tempe, a no-cars-allowed community in Arizona, USA

As per the community guidelines, the residents are contractually forbidden to park a vehicle within a quarter-mile radius of the site.

Culdesac Tempe is a $170 million residential community built outside Phoenix, Arizona. It is said to be the first and only zero-driving community built from scratch in the USA. The community is said to have 761 apartment units, with the first set scheduled to open from July 2022.

As per the community guidelines, the residents are contractually forbidden to park a vehicle within a quarter-mile radius of the site. Instead, they will have to rely on a bunch of discounted mobility services which will be accounted for in their monthly rent.

The community is said to feature scooter docks, car-share parking, ride-hail pickup zones and a light rail station. Residents of the community are also expected to get complimentary access to Lyft Pink subscription, fleet of Bird scooters, an Envoy car share membership and also free unlimited passes on the valley metro transit system.

Apart from these, the community will also come with its own set of restaurants, work spaces, cafes and stores, ensuring a walkable and car-free environment.

The new urban car-free setup was first announced back in 2019 and since then has drawn in its fair share of intrigue, scientism and praise.
