Delhi: Odd-even scheme returns from April 15-30, 2016

After the first trial run of the odd-even scheme in Delhi that was held in January this year, the government has announced the re-implementation of the rule. This time, the rule will be enforced from April 15 - 30, 2016.

While private vehicles with their registration numbers ending with 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 will be allowed to ply on odd dates, those with their registration numbers ending with 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 will be allowed on even dates. The rule is applicable from 8am - 8pm and there will be no restriction on Sundays. Those flouting this rule will be liable to pay a fine of up to Rs. 2,000.

The rule has arisen after congestion and pollution levels in the nation's capital rose to alarming levels. The government is carrying out multiple test runs to gauge the public response and long term feasibility and impact of the scheme.
