Delhi: Ola, Uber to be asked to switch to EVs

E-commerce services and cab aggregators account for 30% of the registered vehicles in Delhi.

According to a media report, the government of Delhi will be asking all e-commerce companies, food delivery services and cab aggregators to switch to electric vehicles.

In a bid to reduce air pollution in the city, services like Zomato and Swiggy, cab aggregators like Ola and Uber will have to switch to electric vehicles. The government might also bar fuel pumps from supplying fuel to vehicles without a PUC certificate.

As per the government, vehicle emissions account for 38% of the city's air pollution. Further, e-commerce services and cab aggregators account for 30% of the registered vehicles in Delhi.

While the government hasn't announced a specific deadline to complete the shift to EVs, a transport department official stated that it would be done in a phased manner.
