I did a trip from Udipi to Hyderabad yesterday. Road conditions:
- Udipi to Agumbe is being widened and had regular diversions but its still good.
- Agumbe ghat: The ghat was good throughout. The heavy rains haven't damaged the roads. The only problem was young drivers coming downhill very fast even at the curves.
- Agumbe-Thirthahally-Shimoga-Challakere was OK with little damaged portions on and off. Food at Hotel Brindavan in Chennagiri was OK(neat and hygienic).
- Challakere to Bellary was a fab drive similar to the Hyderabad ORR and I could maintain a speed of 120 for the complete 150A stretch.
- Bellary-Kurnool was a terrible nightmare. Unseen craters, pot holes and unmarked speed breakers at every village and a few abruptly just on the road with nothing else around. My X3 took 4/5 small and one large pothole and 2/3 of those concrete rumblers in the darkness. Looks like I have to get the suspension/rims checked as a precaution. I would strongly urge everyone to avoid this stretch not just at night but even in the daytime. Travel time was 14 hours plus 2 for breaks. I suppose Chillakere-Anantapur-Hyderabad may be a better option given the time taken will be same.
Given the conditions of the roads, I think anything more than 8 hours of driving is bad for the body.
