EESL to float fresh tender for 10,000 EVs

The Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EESL) will float another global tender for 10,000 electric vehicles (EVs) by April 2018. It will also sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Andhra Pradesh to supply 10,000 EVs for official use.

According to Saurabh Kumar, managing director, EESL, state governments have shown interest in procuring EVs from EESL. Some of the vehicles procured through the fresh tender will be supplied to the Andhra Pradesh government. Further, the state governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra are also looking to purchase 4,000 and 2,000 EVs respectively.

This will be the second tender for 10,000 EVs floated by EESL since August 2017. Earlier, Tata Motors had outbid Mahindra and Nissan to bag the contract. As part of the deal, Tata delivered the first batch of 250 Tigor EVs in December 2017. EESL hopes that more manufacturers will bid for the second tender. Moreover, EESL hasn't set a fixed timeline for the delivery of the cars. It will depend on the production capacity of the winning bidder.
