Ex-Tesla engineer to launch Prana e-bike in India

According to a media report, Mohanraj Ramaswamy, who has worked with Tesla in the past, plans to launch an electric motorcycle called Prana in India.

The Prana is said to be an electric performance motorcycle. It is likely to be offered in three variants - Class, Grand and Elite. The electric motor powering the Prana is expected to produce 35 Nm of peak torque, while its fixed lithium-ion battery will reportedly offer a maximum range of 126-250 km on a single charge.

The Prana e-bike is said to weigh 160 kg and is claimed to have a top speed of 100 km/h. It could accelerate from 0-60 km/h in under 4 seconds. Reports suggest that the Prana will come with 4 riding modes and could including a reverse mode. The total cost of ownership is expected to be equivalent to a 300cc motorcycle.

It has been reported that the Prana e-bike will be built by Srivaru Motors in Coimbatore. 70% of its parts will be sourced locally. The company plans to build 30,000 units annually. By outsourcing production, the company plans to increase capacity by up to 2 lakh units within 18 months of launch. Initially, 25 retail outlets will be set up before expanding to other part of the country.
