I experienced the product firsthand yesterday and assessed almost everything except the driving and drive-related aspects since TDs weren't allowed (crossposting my own post for reference).
Still, if I have to summarise the Syros in brief, I would say it would sell quite well even if it comes at the cost of cannibalising its own sibling, the Sonet, since the latter falls short in the space department and in comparison, the Syros feels like a 3BHK flat! That is the benefit of having such an oddball design.
The base model also seems to be loaded and does not feel barebones at all. I saw the base model in person and it's more of a mid variant than a base. You get stuff like alloys (diesel), projector lights, sunroof (diesel) etc, and the only thing giving away the fact that it's a base variant is the absence of rear wash and wipe. This ensures the Syros is pretty much desirable for even someone with a limited budget.
Apart from that, the Syros has the usual Kia traits of a high-quality interior, a laundry list of equipment and a user-friendly nature. I see no reason why its oddball design could dent its sales figure, given that there was similar negativity spread about the design when cars like the 2nd-Gen Creta and Kia Carens were launched. People said it would flop but became a blockbuster hit. I expect pretty much the same with Syros. Also, having a CRDi that too with an AT option is a BIG advantage for Syros, IMO.
All the best to Kia for their Syros. I'm honestly attracted towards the car!
