Ferrari 488 Spider revealed. Debut at Frankfurt Motor Show

Ferrari has officially revealed the 488 Spider. Stated to be Ferrari's most powerful ever mid-rear engined V8 with a retractable hard top, the 488 Spider uses the same engine as the 488 GTB that was revealed a few months ago.

Powering the car is a 90-degree, turbo-charged V8 that displaces 3,902 cc. The engine produces 660 BHP @ 8,000 rpm and 760 Nm of torque @ 3,000 rpm. Mated with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, the 488 Spider can hit a top speed of over 325 km/h. 0-100 km/h comes up in claimed 3 seconds, while 0-200 km/h comes up in 8.7 seconds. The retractable hard top folds backwards in two overlapping sections and Ferrari says it takes 14 seconds to fully retract or deploy.

The 488 Spider has a spaceframe chassis made of 11 different aluminium alloys combined with other elements, such as magnesium. Ferrari states that the chassis achieves the same torsional rigidity and beam stiffness figures as the coupe. Length x width x height x wheelbase dimensions come in at 4,568 mm x 1,952 mm x 1,211 mm x 2,650 mm and the car tips the scales at around 1,525 kg.

The world premiere of the 488 Spider will take place at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, 2015.
