Fiat Urban Cross spotted testing

The Fiat Urban Cross has been spotted testing for the first time on public roads. The Urban Cross is essentially a cosmetically tweaked version of the Avventura, and will thus be Fiat's third model based on the Punto Evo hatchback.

The Urban Cross was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. The biggest change in its looks as compared to the Avventura is the missing tailgate mounted spare tyre. Other cosmetic changes include a new front grille, redesigned headlamps, and a revised bumper. Though the model showcased at the Auto Expo had silver cladding, it remains to be seen whether Fiat brings it to the production model or not.

On the inside, the Fiat Urban Cross will likely get a dual-tone red and black layout, with silver accents on the steering, centre console, and gear lever. It is also expected to feature a touchscreen infotainment system that will come with Bluetooth connectivity and satellite navigation.

The Urban Cross will most probably be launched only with a 1.4-litre, T-Jet petrol engine, that is rated at 138 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 210 Nm of torque @ 2,000-4,000 rpm. This is the same engine that powers the Avventura powered by Abarth. It will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Fiat Urban Cross launch in India is rumoured to be scheduled for September 2016.
