First Mahindra Thar fetches Rs. 1.11 crore at auction

Mahindra will match the winning bid and the entire proceeds will be donated to a charity.

The first Mahindra Thar has been sold at an auction for a whopping Rs. 1.11 crore.

Last week, Mahindra had announced that it was auctioning off the first Thar for charity. The company will contribute an amount equal to the winning bid and the entire proceeds will be donated to either the Naandi Foundation, Swades Foundation, or PM CARES fund - based on the choice of the winning bidder.

The Thar #1 will come with a customized badge with the winner's initials, serial number 1 on a special decorative VIN plate on the dashboard and leatherette seats. The winning bidder will be able to choose between a hard or soft top, petrol or diesel powertrain with either a manual or automatic gearbox. The car will be offered in the LX trim.

The Thar is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder mStallion petrol engine that produces 150 BHP and 320 Nm. It is also available with a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel unit that makes 130 BHP and 320 Nm. Both engines are available with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. A four-wheel drive system with a manual shift transfer case is standard across all variants.

The new Thar is scheduled to be launched on October 2, 2020.
