Ford EcoSport with BS-VI engine spotted testing

A test mule of the Ford EcoSport, believed to be powered by a BS-VI compliant engine, has been spotted testing on the outskirts of Chennai. The new emission norms are scheduled to come into effect from April 2020.

According to a media report, Ford is likely to upgrade its 1.5-litre Dragon series petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines to meet BS-VI emission regulations. However, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost may not be upgraded and could be discontinued.

At present, the EcoSport is offered with three engine options. These include a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 121 BHP @ 6,500 rpm and 150 Nm of torque @ 4,500 rpm, a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 99 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and 205 Nm of torque @ 1,750-3,250 rpm and a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder EcoBoost turbo petrol engine that puts out 123 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 170 Nm of torque @ 1,500-4,500 rpm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic.
