Ford's Sanand plant reaches 1 lakh production milestone

Ford claims to have produced 1 lakh cars at its plant in Sanand, Gujarat. The automaker has achieved this milestone in 15 months, since the start of the plant's operations in the second quarter of 2015. The 1,00,000th car to roll out from the Sanand production plant was a Ford Figo.

The Gujarat facility is Ford's second production plant in the country, with the first one being near Chennai. The manufacturer has invested around $ 1 billion in this plant, which also caters to various export markets like Europe, Middle-East, Africa, and the ASEAN countries. Ford manufacturers the Figo hatchback and the Figo Aspire compact sedan in Sanand, while the remaining products in its portfolio come out from the Chennai plant.

Though the automaker didn't reveal any classified figures showing the domestic-export ratio, sales figures of the Figo and Aspire show around 50,000 domestic sales. Thus, out of the 1 lakh cars produced at Sanand, around 50% have been exported to other markets.

Ford recently became the largest car exporter of the country in August 2016 by shipping out 17,860 units, as compared to Hyundai's figure of 16,506 units.
