Fresh spy pictures partially reveal interiors of Tata Kite

Last week, the upcoming hatchback from Tata Motors, which has been codenamed 'Kite', was spotted doing test runs near the company's Pune factory. Now a new set of images has surfaced on the internet.

The Kite is likely to feature Tata Motors' new signature honeycomb grille and a roofline that slopes down backwards. The Christmas tree tail lamps, which have been a trademark of Tata cars over the years, have been left out. The Kite features a pair of horizontal wrap around units.

While the pictures give us a glimpse into the interior of the car, the heavy camouflage prevents us from drawing any conclusions. However, it is clear that the Kite will borrow some components from other cars in the Tata family. For instance, the air-conditioner vents appear to be lifted from the Xenon pick-up truck. The instrument cluster consists of two dials with silver bezels.

While it is not clear which engines Tata will use to power the Kite, we expect a smaller capacity unit from the Revotron family to make it under the hood of the car. A diesel motor and Automated Manual Transmission could also be offered.

Tata Motors is expected to roll out the Kite from its Sanand factory. This plant, which was built specialy for the Nano with an investment of Rs. 2,000 crore, has an annual capacity of 2,50,000 units. However, in FY 14, it rolled out just 21,538 units of the Nano. Due to the low demand for the car, the company has been keeping the plant operational for just 2-3 days a week over the last six months. In the same period the plant has manufactured just 2,000-2,400 cars per month. The company plans to increase the plant's viability by using it to manufacture the Kite. 1,50,000 units of the new car are expected to be rolled out from this facility annually.

The Kite is likely to be positioned just above the Nano.
