General Motors to become F1's 11th team in 2026

While the team could form the 11th team from 2026, GM will enter as an engine supplier at a slightly later stage.

Formula One has released an official statement confirming that they have reached an "agreement in principle" with General Motors to support GM/Cadillac to become the 11th team on the F1 grid from the 2026 season.

F1 is said to have maintained dialogue with both General Motors and its partners, TWG Global, regarding the former's entry into the sport, following the commercial assessment made at the start of the year. General Motors, over the course of the year, is said to have achieved operational milestones and made a clear commitment to brand the team GM/Cadillac. While the team could form the 11th team from 2026, GM will enter as an engine supplier at a slightly later stage.

Formula 1 therefore confirmed that they have decided to move forward with the application process of GM.

Stefano Domenicali, President & CEO of Formula 1, stated, "General Motors and Cadillac’s commitment to this project is an important and positive demonstration of the evolution of our sport. We look forward to seeing the progress and growth of this application, certain of the full collaboration and support of all the parties involved."
