Harley-Davidson cuts production, lays off staff in India

According to media reports, Harley-Davidson is scaling down its operations in India. It is said that the bike maker is slashing production at its Bawal assembly plant in Haryana. The company is also said to have laid off some of its workers.

The move is part of the brand's global overhaul strategy called 'The Rewire', which was unveiled by the company's new CEO Jochen Zeitz. Besides, business has slowed down following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, which could also have influenced the decision makers.

It has also been reported that Sanjeev Rajasekharan, MD, Harley-Davidson India, will now be based in Singapore. In addition to heading the brand's India business, Rajasekharan will also handle other emerging markets in the Asian region.

Harley-Davidson India has not released any official statement confirming these reports.
