Hero starts product development in India after EBR's demise

Hero MotoCorp and its Erik Buell Racing (EBR), its US-based technical partner, had been developing a 250cc motorcycle (HX250R) and a scooter. However, with the American company shutting down due to bankruptcy, the bike's development was halted. Hero MotoCorp has now started to bring back the product development of its models to India.

A pre-production specimen of the HX250R bike was spied last month. Hero has revealed that it will be doing all the development work in India. Other products that were being developed with EBR will now be developed in India.

Though no timeframe was disclosed, the company as revealed that it will be restarting work on the projects shortly.

Hero MotoCorp is setting up an innovation facility in Jaipur. This facility is expected to be functional from early next year.

EBR was founded in 2009. In 2013, Hero MotoCorp acquired a 49.2% stake in the company for a sum of $ 25 million. In 2012, the Indian company had entered into an agreement with EBR to source technology for high-end bikes.
