Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin deliveries begin

Honda has commenced deliveries of the CRF1000L Africa Twin bike in India. The litre-class adventure bike was launched in May 2017 and the company has received the targeted 50 bookings for the first batch.

The Dakar rally-inspired road bike measures 2,334 mm in length, 932 mm in width and 1,478 mm in height. The CRF1000L has a wheelbase of 1,574 mm and 250 mm ground clearance. It weighs in at 245 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 18.8 litre. Seat height can be adjusted between 820-840 mm. The bike gets a twin headlamp setup with LEDs and Auto-headlamp On (AHO) function. The taillamp and the indicators also get the LED treatment.

The Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin is Honda's first litre-class bike to be assembled in India. It is imported into the country as a CKD unit. The Africa Twin uses a 999cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin cylinder engine that produces 87 BHP @ 7,500 rpm and 91.9 Nm @ 6,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission which offers the rider to choose between manual and automatic gear shifting modes, depending on the riding terrain and conditions.

Features on offer include three-stage traction control system that can be completely switched off and a twin-channel ABS. The rider can disable the ABS function only for the rear wheel. The bike is equipped with a fully adjustable 45 mm inverted fork at the front that offers 230 mm of travel. The rear features an adjustable monoshock suspension. It gets 310 mm twin-floating petal-type discs with 4-piston Nissin calipers up front and a 256 mm disc with single-piston caliper at the rear. It also gets a parking brake lever.

The Africa Twin gets a digital dash that enables the driver to monitor the gear position, ABS and traction control. The bike comes with a 'G Switch' which provides half-clutch control and responds directly to throttle operation and also improves traction across all modes. Another feature on the bike is that it detects an incline automatically.

The CRF1000L will be sold only through Honda's Wing World dealerships across 22 cities in India. It is available only in the Victory Red colour and is priced at Rs. 13.07 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
