Honda teases two new electric sports car

Honda is said to have invested 5 trillion yen (approx US$ 40 billion) towards its electrification plans over the next decade.

Honda has announced its renewed global electrification plans for 2030. The company stated that they plan to introduce 30 electric vehicles by the end of the decade and have an annual production capacity of 2 million EVs.

Besides its electrification announcement, the Japanese carmaker also teased two new electric sports cars - a speciality model and a flagship offering. While details of the two electric sports cars are unknown at the moment, the flagship offering is expected to be a successor to the brand's NSX, while the speciality model appears to be a Grand Tourer. Both models will be offered globally, as confirmed by Honda.

Apart from the two electric sports cars, Honda will also introduce an entire lineup of EVs, ranging from commercial use mini-EVs to flagship-class models. The company recently announced a range of affordable EVs from 2027, as part of its partnership with General Motors. The partnership will also see the introduction of two large EVs in 2024 - the Honda Prologue SUV and a new Acura SUV.

Honda is said to have invested 5 trillion yen (approx US$ 40 billion) towards its electrification plans over the next decade. This includes R&D expenses & other investments. Honda's R&D expenses are now budgeted at over 8 trillion yen (approx US$ 63 billion) for this period.
