Honda's mid-size SUV for India christened 'Elevate'

The Honda Elevate will share its underpinnings with the 5th-gen City and will compete with the Hyundai Creta.

Honda has confirmed that its new mid-size SUV for the Indian market will be called 'Elevate'.

Honda Elevate is set to make its global debut on June 6. It will go on sale in India in August this year as a rival to the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq.

The Honda Elevate will share its underpinnings with the 5th-gen City. The latest teaser features the rear fascia of the production version with the 'Elevate' badge. The car is likely to borrow cues from Honda’s other global models. It is expected to get an upright front fascia with LED daytime running on either side, flared wheel arches, and a set of roof rails. Inside, the SUV will reportedly come equipped with a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, among other features.

The mid-size SUV will be powered by the 1.5-litre petrol engine from the City, albeit in a higher state of tune. A strong-hybrid version is likely to arrive later, but it won't get a diesel engine option. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and CVT.
