Hyderabad: 2-day jail for wrong side riding

According to a media report, the 14th Special MM Court in Hyderabad has sentenced 6 persons to two days in prison for riding their 2-wheelers on the wrong side of the road. They were also fined Rs. 50 each for obstructing traffic under Section 21/76 of the Hyderabad City Police Act.

The Hyderabad City Police Act has a provision to jail people obstructing traffic. However, the traffic police generally book offenders under Sections 119 and 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, under which, a challan of Rs. 1,100 is issued.

It has been reported that over 1,05,346 individuals were booked in the first 6 months of 2019 for wrong side driving, which is 115% more than the same period last year.
