Hyundai gets type approval for the fuel-cell Nexo in India

The Nexo could become the first Hydrogen powered car in the Indian market.

Back in 2019, we had reported that Hyundai could launch the Nexo in India in 2021. Now, Hyundai has received type approval for the fuel-cell vehicle. The Nexo could become the first Hydrogen powered car in the Indian market.

The Nexo measures 4,670 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, 1,630 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,790 mm. The 5-door SUV has a 95 kW hydrogen fuel cell and a 40 kW battery pack. The SUV has an electric motor rated at 161 BHP and 395 Nm. According to Hyundai, the Nexo can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 9.2 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 179 km/h. The car is said to have an estimated range of 666 km (WLTP).

However, there is a lack of infrastructure for fuel-cell cars in the country. These cars would require the setting up of hydrogen filling stations.
