Hyundai has collaborated with Mobis India to assemble battery packs at a new facility within its Sriperumbudur plant. The carmaker aims to boost domestic production and optimize the cost of EVs by achieving higher levels of localization.
Hyundai is working with more than 194 vendors to localize over 1,234 parts. It claims to have achieved up to 92% localization in its manufacturing.
Hyundai’s new battery manufacturing unit has an initial production capacity of 75,000 units per annum. Different types of batteries, including Lithium-Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt Oxide (NMC) and Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) can be assembled here.
The recently launched Creta Electric will be the first to use locally assembled battery packs.
