Hyundai is set to launch its first electric vehicle, the Kona Electric in India on July 9, 2019.

In India, the Kona EV is expected to be offered with a 39.2 kWh lithium-ion battery that has a claimed range of 312 km on a single charge. It is likely to power an electric motor that produces 134 BHP and 395 Nm of torque. The company claims that this version of the Kona EV can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 9.7 seconds and has a top speed of 155 km/h.

In the international market, Hyundai also offers a 64 kWh version that offers a maximum range of 482 km on a single charge. This version uses a 201 BHP electric motor with a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 167 km/h. According to Hyundai, the batteries in this variant can be recharged to 80% of their capacity in 54 minutes using a fast charger, while normal charging takes 9.35 hours to reach 100%.

The Kona could come equipped with LED tail lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, 7-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging and paddle shifters for regenerative braking control.

In September 2018, Hyundai had showcased the Kona Electric SUV at Move: The Global Mobility Summit. It could be imported as a completely knocked down (CKD) unit.
