Indonesia: Made in India 138 BHP Polo VRS launched

The official distributor for Volkswagen cars in Indonesia, PT Garuda Mataram Motor, has launched the Polo VRS at a price of IDR 308 million (Rs. 14,69,160). The car is priced at a premium of Rs. 1,43,100 compared to the regular Polo 1.2 TSI.

The Polo VRS is based on the fifth generation Polo and imported from India. It features external changes like a black front spoiler, black roof spoiler and ORVMs finished in black shade. The car also gets VRS decals on the sides. The Polo VRS also comes equipped with dual tone side skirts and rear bumper. On the inside, its same to the regular car, except for a driver armrest and a revised 340 G RCD infotainment system with an SD Card slot, USB, iPod support and smartphone connectivity.

The VRS is powered by the same 1.2-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged direct injection petrol engine found on the Polo GT TSI, but the power figures have been bumped up to 138 BHP and 230 Nm. Transmission duties are handled by the same 7-speed DSG transmission. While the exact changes to the engine are not yet known, it is speculated that VW might have upgraded a few parts on the engine in addition to an ECU remap to boost performance over the standard 104 BHP / 175 Nm tune offered on the standard 1.2 TSI. That said, it is not yet known if Volkswagen has any plans to introduce the same in India.
