Hello Fellow BHPians !
This is my first post on the forum, and I couldn't think of a better way to start than by sharing my experience with my beloved Yamaha R15 V3 S, fondly named Zayra which means " Princess " in Arabic, and for me, it perfectly captures the spirit of my bike.
My journey with Zayra began long before I actually owned her. I first layed eyes on the V3 back in 2018, and it was love at first sight. The sharp design, aggressive stance captivated me. Back then, owning one seemed like a distant dream. But fast forward to 2024, and my dream finally came true when my parents gifted me this beauty.
This is my first bike, and she is special in every way. Before this, I rode my dad's Honda Livo and my mom's Honda Aviator, both 110cc machines. While they were reliable, moving to a 155cc sportbike was the upgrade that brought me closer to the riding experience I had always yearned for.
The moment I yearned for years: From a dream in 2018 to reality in 2024
Daily Commutes:
Over the past 10 months of owning her, she has been my daily companion for my college commutes. Everyday we cover 60 kms up and down, mostly on state highway, national highways and Chennai Outer ring road. These roads are where she truly comes alive, and whether it is about overtaking slower vehicles or cruising at a relaxed pace, she has been an absolute joy to ride.
Daily Commutes with her never feels dull !
The Indicator Upgrade:
One day, I noticed my buddy's buddy who has the R15M sporting sequential indicators and the sleek sequential pattern instantly caught my attention. I haven't spoken with the owner yet, but the brief glimpse was enough to inspire me
After some thought, I decided to upgrade her with similar indicators. So I chose a set of sequential indicators with red running lights in the rear and the same sequential one ( without running lights) for the front, as installing flush mount indicators are mere aesthetics than functionality and these sequential indicators came with connector pins, hence did not require cutting of any wires.
Installation:
The Yamaha mechanics asked me to come after office hours ( I accepted to arrive after hours as place is 5 minutes away from my house) and got the job done in just 10 minutes ! They connected the rear indicators in such a way that, the red running lights turn on whenever I apply the brakes, a feature I didn't expect but absolutely loved.
Sleek, functional and bright !
Aesthetic and Functional Impact:
The new indicators have transformed the way Zayra looks, especially during evening rides. The glow is bright, functional and perfectly compliments the character. The red running lights at the rear add a unique touch, while the sequential indicators enhances her modern appeal.
I'm pleased with how practical the upgrade is. The brighter indicators make me more visible to other road users, especially during highway commutes, where visibility can be a concern.
Next Big Thing:
For me, it isn't just a bike. It's a reflection of my personality, my journey and my passion for riding. Every mod I've done so far, from the tail tidy, the Indonesian visor to these new indicators, brings me closer to making her truly mine.
Looking ahead, I'm already planning my next big upgrade, retrofitting the KYB upside down forks from the R15V4, which will not only enhance handling but also give her a sportier and aggressive look. While it is still in the planning stage, the idea alone has me exited for the transformation.
During the 4th Periodic service at 13,000 kms
Here's to more mods, miles and memories.
I hope you all enjoyed reading this post and i would love to hear your thoughts and feedback, especially about the USD fork upgrade idea or any other mods you think that would compliment my V3.
Ride safe and Happy Motorcycling.
