Jaguar Land Rover to build engines locally at its Pune plant

According to a media report, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is planning to set up a manufacturing line for engines at its Pune plant. The carmaker hasn't revealed the exact time or the amount of investment that would be required for this.

The report suggests that JLR might manufacture the 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine from the Ingenium family in India, since it is one of the most widely used powerplants. This engine develops 148 BHP and 382 Nm of torque. The move is expected to help in cutting import duties and in turn, reduce the price of the vehicles by 20-25%.

JLR has also revealed that it is also evaluating more models for assembly in India. Currently, the Jaguar XE, XF and F-Pace are imported as completely knocked down kits (CKD). Out of all the Land Rover models currently sold in India, the Discovery Sport and Evoque are assembled locally.
