Jaguar XE to be unveiled on September 8

British luxury carmaker, Jaguar will unveil its new sedan, the XE at London on September 8, 2014.

The XE will be Jaguar's smallest sedan, slotting below the XF. From the teasers that the company has released, it is apparent that the car bears resemblance to its bigger siblings - the XF and XJ.

Jaguar claims that the XE will be a true driver's car. It is built around an aluminium-intensive architecture and has a lightweight construction, which is said to make it a more agile handling machine. The car gets a double-wishbone front suspension, which is mounted to a sub-frame with cast aluminium suspension towers. Based on the suspension from the F-Type sports car, it is said to give the XF-R levels of stiffness to the XE. At the rear, Jaguar has provided an integral link suspension, which is said to be superior to a conventional multi-link suspension. Jaguar claims that this suspension provides lateral and longitudinal stiffness and delivers sharp response and handling without compromising on the ride quality. Many components of this suspension have been forged or hollow-cast in aluminium.

The XE also gets a new-generation electric power assisted steering, which the company claims gives it better feel and low-speed manoeuvrability. Jaguar has also developed a new rear-wheel drive traction-control system called All Surface Progress Control for the car.

The XE will get engines from Jaguar Land Rover's new Ingenium engine family. This engine family is made up of four-cylinder, 2-litre, turbocharged petrol and diesel units, which will available with various power outputs.

The Jaguar XE will compete with the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes Benz C-Class. The global roll-out for the car is expected to begin in 2015.
