Japan: Mitsubishi Pajero production to end by August 2019

According to a media report, Mitsubishi will end production of the Pajero SUV in Japan. The company also plans to assemble only 700 units till August 2019.

The Pajero SUV has been on sale since 1982. More than 6,40,000 units of the car have been sold till date. The production will end with a Final Edition special variant. One of the reasons reported for this is the severe decline in demand for the SUV last year. According to reports, poor fuel economy figures and Mitsubishi’s more economical Outlander PHEV and Eclipse Cross have been the reason for the low demand.

The Final Edition cars will be powered by a 3.2-liter turbo diesel engine that produces 190 BHP and 441 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 5-speed automatic gearbox and a Super Select 4WD II system with lockable rear differential. The Final Edition will also come with 7-inch infotainment screen, electric driver and passenger seats, leather upholstery, electric sunroof and winter package.

Mitsubishi is expected to continue selling the Pajero in other for over 70 markets outside Japan.
