Jeep Compass gets 5-star Euro NCAP rating

Europe NCAP has crash tested the Euro-spec Jeep Compass SUV, which has managed to earn a 5-star safety rating. The tested model was equipped with standard safety features like six airbags, ABS, ISOFIX child seat mounts, autonomous emergency braking system (AEB) and seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters at the front and rear.

The passenger compartment of the Compass was found to be stable in the frontal offset test, while the dummies were appropriately insulated from any fatal blows or injuries. The Compass also scored full points in the side barrier test. However, in the side pole test impact, protection to the chest was rated as poor, based on high rib compressions, although these remained lower than the values at which the risk of fatal injuries becomes unacceptable. Whiplash protection offered from the front and rear seats was found to be good. The tested model was equipped with autonomous emergency braking system that performed as expected at low speed in test conditions. The SUV scored 90% points in overall adult occupancy protection.

In child occupancy protection, the Compass earned 83% points. The protection for dummies of 6-year and 10-year olds was good in the frontal offset test except for the chest protection of the 6-year old dummy, which was rated poor. The side barrier test also showcased good protection for both dummies. The SUV scored 64% in pedestrian safety and 59% in the safety assist features department.

The closest variant to the tested vehicle available in India is the 2.0 Multijet Limited 4x4, which gets 6 airbags, but misses out on the AEB and lane assist. The right-hand drive variants of the Compass are made in the Ranjangaon factory in Pune and exported to other right-hand drive markets around the world.
