Jeep Compass gets stuck in 1st gear & multiple warning symbols light up

The SUV has clocked 15,000 km & has been performing fine. All this happened suddenly while I was driving.

BHPian sudiptaadhya recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

The car was working fine and has been serviced as per schedule. While driving today, I was suddenly bombarded with errors and the car wouldn't upshift from 1st gear.

Any idea what could be happening?

Here's what BHPian Traveler had to say about the matter:

Most probably an ABS Sensor has gone kaput. Get it checked at the SC. If under warranty, they will change the ABS Sensor.

Here's what BHPian Shreyans_Jain had to say about the matter:

It should be a battery issue. My Compass (manual) battery had died a few days back, and sure enough, it gave all kinds of errors. A new battery was fitted and everything got cleared on its own.

Here's what BHPian sparameswaran had to say about the matter:

I am getting deja vu of my encounters with the alternator on my T Jet. When the battery dies after the alternator conks off, I used to get multiple such weird error messages (including ABS error).

The first thing I would check is the battery here.

Here's what BHPian Axe77 had to say about the matter:

An ABS sensor failing isn’t a fatal flaw in itself and it isn’t surprising that it triggers a host of warning lights. But what's surprising is that it force stalls the car and doesn’t allow it to go beyond 1st gear (or 2nd if that’s the first gear in normal use).

I think it should allow the car to run with a warning light that it should be driven slowly and promptly to the service station. The car shouldn’t be rendered unusable in such a situation.

I’ve had a few sensor failures in my 3GT’s seven years of ownership and it never force-stopped my car from being usable.
