JLR working on 5 new cars including Road Rover EV

According to a media report, Jaguar Land Rover is working on 5 new cars, including 3 new models. The new cars include the Jaguar J-Pace SUV, the electric next-gen Jaguar XJ,the new Defender, the Road Rover EV, and the next-generation Range Rover. The cars are expected to be released by 2022.

All the cars are expected to be based on the company's MLA platform, which supports mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid as well as full electric powertrains, and will get SOTA (software over the air) capability. 14 modules in the car's electrical architecture are expected to be connected to the internet.

The first of these new models will be the Land Rover Defender. It will be offered as a 3-door and as a 5-door and it is expected to come with a 2.0-litre diesel engine. A petrol variant could also be offered. The car could be unveiled by the end of the year and is expected to be launched in India. It will be followed by an all-electric next-generation XJ, which is expected to rival the electric Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the electric BMW 7-Series. It could be revealed in the next 12 months. The XJ could be followed by the J-Pace. The J-Pace could be launched as an all-electric variant and is expected to be placed above the F-Pace in the company's line-up. It could be launched in early 2021.

By late 2021, the company is expected to launch the first all-electric Range Rover called the Road Rover. It could be lower and more aerodynamic than the current Range Rover models and could be positioned between the Evoque and the Velar. It is expected to be followed by the next-generation Range Rover. By 2025, all-electric variants of the Defender and the Range Rover are expected to be launched. Post 2025, all Land Rover models will be electrified.
