Kerala cops using social media to clamp down on modified cars

According to a media report, the Motor Vehicles Department in Kerala is now using social media to track down modified 2-wheelers and cars in the state.

The department is following social media accounts of youths who post photographs of illegally modified vehicles. Based on the intelligence gathered, the authorities are tracking down the registered owners. The owners are given an ultimatum to restore the vehicle to factory specification and produce it at the Regional Transport Office (RTO). Failure to do so would result in the registration certificate (RC) being suspended.

It is said that more than a dozen illegally modified vehicles have already been tracked down via social media posts. Many of these were retrofitted with imported parts that included air filters and loud exhausts.
