Kia developing Sorento-based 3-row SUV with hybrid power

Hyundai is also planning to launch a 3-row SUV based on the same platform.

According to a media report, Kia is developing a 3-row SUV for India. The new model (codenamed: MQ4i) will be targeted at midsize SUVs like the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700.

The Kia MQ4i is said to be based on the Sorento and is expected to be around 4.8 meters in length with a wheelbase of 2.8 meters. Reports also suggest that the new 3-row SUV will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a strong hybrid system.

The MQ4i will be built at Kia’s Anantapur factory in Andhra Pradesh. The carmaker plans to produce around 50,000 units of the new SUV annually. It will be initially launched in India, before going on sale in other markets.

The report goes on to state that Hyundai is also planning to launch a 3-row SUV based on the same platform codenamed Ni1i. It will be manufactured at its new Talegaon plant near Pune.
