Kia EV6 beats Model 3 & Leaf to become world's most reliable EV

Tesla & Nissan are among the few brands, that have been producing EVs for over a decade, giving them a clear advantage over their competitors.

According to a new survey by Consumer Reports, the Tesla Model 3 and Nissan Leaf are among the most reliable electric vehicles occupying the second and third positions, respectively. Although the top slot is taken up by the Kia EV6, the report cannot yet determine if the EV will be able to match the proven track record of the Model 3 in the long term, since it's a relatively new product.

The survey is said to have collected data from hundreds of thousands of EV owners. The data also includes serious issues such as breakdowns & malfunctions. This history is then taken to predict the reliability of the model in the future. Reports also state that while the Kia EV6, Tesla Model 3 & Nissan Leaf are more reliable than other EVs, they still lag behind conventional ICE cars.

While EVs are theoretically expected to be more reliable than ICE-powered vehicles, the survey offers a contrasting result. As per the report, EV owners have reported multiple issues related to battery packs, charging, electric motors and heating & cooling systems. This is said to be because today's EVs are manufactured by companies that have traditionally been producing ICE cars and are now facing a learning curve when manufacturing EVs. Tesla & Nissan are among the few brands, that have been producing EVs for over a decade, giving them a clear advantage over their competitors.
