Kia Niro, Sportage SUV spied in India

Kia Niro hybrid crossover and Sportage SUV have been spotted at a yard in India. The Sportage was one of the models displayed at the dealer meet organized by Kia in August 2017. That said, the Niro has been spotted for the first time since Kia announced their intentions to enter the Indian market.

In the European market, the Kia Niro is offered with a hybrid powertrain comprising of a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.56 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. The petrol engine produces 104 BHP @ 5,700 rpm and 147 Nm of torque @ 4,000 rpm. The electric motor adds an additional 43 BHP to the total output. It comes equipped with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission and a regenerative braking system.

The Sportage on the other hand is a much larger SUV. It is offered with a 2.0-litre petrol which produces 153 BHP / 192 Nm, a 2.4-litre petrol unit that puts out 181 BHP / 237 Nm and a 2.0-litre diesel engine which makes 182 BHP / 402 Nm.

Kia Motors is building a manufacturing facility in the state of Andhra Pradesh which will be operational by 2019. The company is yet to confirm the models that will be available in India however it is rumoured that their first product would be a mid-sized SUV.
