KSRTC starts Airavat Diamond Class bus service with Scania

Scania has delivered the first batch of Metrolink buses to The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) in Bangalore. These buses will be used by KSRTC under the 'Airavat Diamond Class' brand.

In July last year, Scania had handed over two Metrolink buses to KSRTC to run on trial basis for a period of two months. Scania was one of the contenders in the tender issued by KSRTC, inviting premium intercity bus manufacturers to file nomination towards the order.

The Scania Metrolink bus range was introduced in 2013. It caters to the medium and long distance travel in the Indian market. The buses are already present in states in the south of India, and in Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Scania Metrolink buses are equipped with features such as:

  • Fleet Management Service (FMS) – performance monitoring of the vehicle and the driver
  • Speed limit compliant to state regulations
  • All windows, front-rear-side and roof hatches, can be used as emergency exits - with twelve hammers
  • Emergency doors
  • Fire retardant material in all critical areas
  • Aeroplane-like safety video to educate passengers on dos and don'ts at the time of emergency
  • Aeroplane-like black box
