Land Rover Defender launched at Rs. 73.98 lakh

Land Rover has launched the new Defender in India. The SUV is available in five variants and two body styles. It will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU) and prices start at Rs. 73.98 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Deliveries will begin in Q1 of FY2021.

The new Defender is based on the D7x architecture. The Defender 90 (3-door) measures 4,583 mm in length, 1,974 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,587 mm. The Defender 110 (5-door) measures 5,018 mm in length, 1,967 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,022 mm. The SUV has a maximum wading depth of 900 mm. It has an approach angle of 38 degrees, maximum break over angle of 28 degrees (31 degrees on 90) and maximum departure angle of 40 degrees. The Defender 90 comes with 5 seats while the Defender 110 comes with 5+2 seats.

In terms of design, the Defender is a modern interpretation of the original Defender. It comes with multiple seating options with a centre front jump seat, accessory packs and features such as 10-inch touchscreen infotainment head-unit, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 12-way adjustable front seats with heating function, 360-degree camera, wade sensing, smartphone pack, Connected Navigation Pro, off-road tyres and centre console with optional refrigerated compartment among others.

In India, the Defender is offered with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine producing 296 BHP and 400 Nm. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and a permanent four-wheel drive system. The SUV comes with Land Rover's Terrain Response 2 system with electronic air suspension, a locking central differential and an active rear-locking differential.
